SURFACES WORKSHOP, MAY 4TH at the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts in Ojai, CA.

The workshop will begin with a Power Point presentation of work by ceramicists who have heavily influenced my own path these past 25 years, ending with my own pieces.

Following the presentation, I'll demonstrate how to hand build a tripod pot along with surface techniques.

Making their own vessels, participants will use texture tools, regular household items, found objects, to decorate their pots. These pieces will be glazed in their greenware “raw” state with matte glazes with additives and colored slips. I'll also show how I create and control crater/lava effects. 

In the 2nd part of the day, I'll demonstrate 2 inlay techniques championed by Lana Wilson and Akira Satake . Participants will create inlaid slabs that will be stretched, distorted and slumped to  produce functional bowls and wall tiles.  These pieces will be fired with a clear or satin matte glaze and will be ready to pick up or shipping can be arranged.
